Burial At Sea
QuickLinks: Casket Gallery

Burial at sea is not just an ancient tradition practiced by mariners of old; it is a means of final disposition of a casket or cremated remains.  This benefit is largely unknown but still utilized by active duty members, retirees, and honorably discharged veterans of all branches of the United States military.

If you or a family member is considering burial at sea, we welcome you to have the opportunity to view footage of actual service being conducted at sea below.  It is an honor to be buried at sea !

Burial at sea services are performed on Naval vessels while deployed on official maneuvers.  Therefore, it is impossible for the family to be present.  We do request the ceremony be videoed and photographed.  After the ceremony, the family is notified by the commanding officer of the vessel, the date, time longitude, and latitude of the committal service.

Deceased individuals eligible for this program are 1. Members and retirees of the uniformed services, 2. Veterans discharged under honorable conditions, 3. U.S. civilian marine personnel of the military Sealift Command, and 4. Dependents of member, retirees, and veterans of the uniformed services.

Cremation burial at seas package includes all local transportation, required container, package and mail tot he US Navy and a wood flag case for the flag once it has been returned.

Casket burial at seas package includes all the local transportation, body preparation, required casket, airfare to Norfolk, Virginia, and all special preparation required by the Navy.
